car buyers eager to get big federal rebates

Sunday, 5 July 2009

Car buyers eager to get big federal rebates…..I

“It is happening already. Customers are asking new-car dealers about getting as much as $4,500 for their old gas-guzzlers.

The new incentive, popularly known as "Cash for Clunkers,” took effect Wednesday.

But it will be weeks before anyone knows the fine print of the federal program, such as how dealers register with the government for reimbursement of the rebates, or when and how salvage yards should process old vehicles into scrap.

To get the credit, the gas-guzzler has to be taken off the road and either destroyed or broken up for parts.

Consumers, car dealers and salvage-yard operators who want to participate in the program said they have plenty of questions while they wait for detailed guidelines due July 23 from the Transportation Department…. Car Buyers

The property and casualty companies of The Motorists Insurance Group have been informed by A.M. Best that it has affirmed their current “A” (Excellent) rating and “stable outlook.” Motorists Life Insurance Company’s current “A-” (Excellent) rating and stable outlook was affirmed as well.

“In these challenging times, many insurance companies have had downgrades in both rating and outlook. I am particularly pleased that A.M. Best has acknowledged the group’s current financial strength and stable financial expectations for the future,” said John J. Bishop, chairman, president and CEO.

“Our group of companies not only met its obligations to policyholders during the worst year for weather and investment losses in its history, but has the financial strength to continue to be a stable, reliable market in the future,” Bishop added.

Safe Driving Around 18 Wheelers

Safe Driving Around 18 Wheelers. Sharing the road with a semi truck requires Safety Steps
  1. be awre of blind spots
  2. leave extra space between vehicles
  3. Don’t pass during a right turn

“Exercising some degree of caution while on the road — using turn signals, slowing down in nasty weather, yielding the right of way, etc. — tends to come naturally to most drivers. What may not come as naturally is remembering that safety rules aren’t one size fits all. Different rules apply to different vehicle types.

For instance, it’s important to remember that the mechanics of an 18-wheeler are quite different than the mechanics of a sedan. With this in mind, here are a few things you can do to drive safely as you share the road with 18-wheelers and other large trucks……” Driving around 18 wheelers

National Motor Vehicle Title Informatoin

Monday, 23 March 2009

National Motor Vehicle Title Information :

“How much will it cost to obtain NMVTIS information on a vehicle?
Cost for NVMTIS vehicle history reports vary and are determined by individual service providers. The Anti-Car Theft Act requires that the system be funded through user fees and not dependent on federal funds. For this reason, NMVTIS has been designed as a fee-for-service system. Current fees range from approximately $2 to $4 per report.

What kind of information will I receive in a NVMTIS vehicle history report?
NMVTIS records provide:

  • current and previous state of title data
  • title issue date
  • latest odometer data
  • theft history data (if any)
  • any brand assigned to a vehicle and date applied
  • salvage history, including designations as a "total loss” (if any)

Read the NMVTIS Consumer Access Product Disclaimer, which describes what is and is not included in NMVTIS reports.

What types of vehicles are included in NMVTIS?
NMVTIS includes information on automobiles, buses, trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, motor homes, and tractors. NMVTIS may not currently include commercial vehicles if those vehicles are not included in a state’s primary database for title records (in some states, those vehicles are managed by a separate agency), although these records may be added at a later time.

How current is the information in NMVTIS?
Currently the data provided to NMVTIS by states is provided in a variety of time frames; while some report and update NVMTIS data in “real-time” (as title transactions occur) others send updates less frequently, such as once every 24 hours or within a period of days….“

Before buying your next used vehicle, you may consider this option to determine if the vehicle was ever stolen and recovered, or salvaged for a minimal cost of only $4.00

Survey Says Homeowners Unaware of Risk

Ho-ho-ho Holiday Parties? Survey says homeowners unaware of risk

“"The survey found that about one-third of homeowners did not think or did not know if they could be held responsible in the event of an alcohol-related accident. In fact, in many states, individuals hosting holiday parties can be held liable. Many courts have found hosts liable for the damages their party guests cause as a result of consuming alcohol at their social gatherings and then driving motor vehicles. Many states have also enacted statutes that can be interpreted as mandating non-commercial social host liability. In these situations, if a guest or third party is injured in an accident that is related to alcohol consumption and the drinking can be linked to the host, the host could be held responsible for the payment of medical bills, vehicle repair costs, lost time from work and — in the worst case — claims for wrongful death resulting in huge monetary settlements. …. Survey says homeowners unaware of risk

The survey found that almost 46 percent of homeowners thought they weren’t liable in the event that a guest became seriously ill from catered food consumed at the host’s home, and about 22 percent didn’t think they could be held responsible if a guest was injured on the sidewalk in front of their property. More than one-third of homeowners either didn’t think they could be held responsible or admitted they didn’t know if they destroyed another home with a careless act. The bottom line is that homeownerscould, in fact, be held responsible in any of these scenarios or accidental incidents”….from Insurance Journal

How to choose the right tires....

How to Choose the right tires

“When you talk tires, you need to decide what’s most important. Is it tread
life, handling or ride comfort? (And no fair saying "all of them.”)
The government has a tire rating system (the Uniform Tire Quality Grade Standards) that may help you pick the most proper tire type, brand and model.
Tread wear rates a tire’s durability relative to an industry standard tire, whose rating is 100. A tire rated at 200 should last twice as long as the benchmark tire, but
critics say the number is subject to fudging by automakers.
Traction is rated as AA, A, B or C. AA is best.
Temperature grades relate to the sustained speeds the tires can handle. C for 85-100 mph, B for 100-115 mph, and A for speeds over 115 mph. The higher the speed rating, the higher-performance the tire is likely to be……“ from Progressive Insurance
