Drivers Now Required to have Liability Insurance Under New Law

Drivers Now Required to have Liability Insurance Under New Law

“Drivers in Wisconsin are now required to have liability insurance under a new law that goes into effect today.

"The new law states you have to have liability insurance, which covers you and the other person. So, that if you’re in an accident, you’ll be covered and the other party will be covered,” said Heather Lundt, and insurance agent at Farmers Insurance Group in Rhinelander.

If an officer pulls you over, you’ll now be asked to show proof of insurance, along with your I.D. and registration.“

"If they don’t have it with them, they can receive a citation. Typically officers will use discretion as to whether a citation will be issued or a warning to provide proof of insurance,” explains Rhinelander Police Chief Mike Steffes.“ Read More Drivers Liability Insurance

Tornado Safety Tips

  1. In a house with a basement, avoid windows get in the basement under some type of sturdy protection.
  2. In a home without a basement go to the lowest floor and find a small room in the center of the house with no windows.
  3. In an office building go directly to an enclosed windowless area .
  4. Vehicles are extremely dangerous park the car as quickly and safely as possible – out of the traffic lanes. [It is safer to get the car out of mud later if necessary than to cause a crash.] Get out and seek shelter in a sturdy building. If in the open country, run to low ground away from any cars (which may roll over on you). Lie flat and face-down, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Avoid seeking shelter under bridges, which can create deadly traffic hazards while offering little protection against flying debris
  5. In the open outdoors: If possible, seek shelter in a sturdy building. If not, lie flat and face-down on low ground, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Get as far away from trees and cars as you can; they may be blown onto you in a tornado.

6. In a shopping mall or large store: Do not panic. Watch for others. Move as quickly as possible to an interior bathroom, storage room or other small enclosed area, away from windows.

7. In a church or theater: Do not panic. If possible, move quickly but orderly to an interior bathroom or hallway, away from windows. Crouch face-down and protect your head with your arms. If there is no time to do that, get under the seats or pews, protecting your head with your arms or hands.

Shopping for home insurance a thankless but necessary task

Saturday 8 May 2010

Shopping for home insurance a thankless but necessary task:

“Chances are you have seen your homeowners-insurance rates go up. Premiums have been rising steadily, according to the Insurance Information Institute, a trade group for the insurance industry. It forecasts that rates will rise about 3 percent, to an average of $879 this year. Weather risks, such as recent hail or wind storms, can drive up costs as well.

So if you decide to shop around, how do you begin?

First, determine if you’re marketable, suggests Gloria Thompson, an independent insurance agent with American Agency in St. Louis Park, Minn. If you have a history of claims, you may find it hard to find a good deal until the last claim is three to five years old, she said….” Shopping for Home Insurance

What's the best way to Create a Home inventory

Friday 5 March 2010

Here is a very good video from the Insurance Information Institute

“"In light of all the natural disasters wreaking havoc across the globe, I’ve
realized I should take a home inventory to document everything I own for
insurance purposes. What’s the best way to do this?

Signed,
Happy
Homeowner

Hi Happy,
You’re smart to want to document your
possessions in case of burglary, damage, or fire. The short answer to your
question: The best tool for the job is the one you’ll actually use.

Taking a home inventory isn’t really hard, it’s just time consuming.
It’s also extremely important; a good inventory will speed up the insurance
claims process and ensure your insurance takes care of everything you lost. (You
do, of course, need the insurance.)

Many tools can guide you through
taking your inventory and storing it (we’ll list some below), but the basics are
pretty simple. You’ll want to take pictures of all your stuff. (It’s also a good
idea to snap pictures of serial numbers of your gadgetry.) If you’ve got a video
camera, you can simply walk through your home and film every room for a good and
simple start.

It’s also very important that you store your inventory
outside your home in some form. You could store it at your office or somewhere
else outside of your home. If it’s digital, upload ..” from Lifehacker.com
